The Technical Lead will work with the Betashares Direct core platform team on products and services across investing and superannuation.
The role is a hands-on technical leadership position responsible for leading delivery for a team of 4–6 engineers.
The team owns multiple services in an AWS and Kubernetes environment.
Role responsibilities
- Lead the technical delivery of a team of 4–6 engineers and align work to agreed outcomes.
- Provide hands-on contribution across design, build, review and improvement of production services.
- Guide technical decisions across multiple services, balancing scalability, reliability, maintainability and delivery trade-offs.
- Own and improve engineering practices across AWS and Kubernetes environments.
- Improve deployment, observability and operational readiness.
- Plan and sequence technical work while identifying dependencies, risks and service-level impacts.
- Support engineers through technical coaching, design feedback and code review.
- Maintain standards for code quality, testing, documentation and production support.
- Address recurring technical, operational and delivery issues across team-owned services.
Must-haves
- Demonstrated experience leading technical delivery for a software engineering team.
- Hands-on experience designing, building and operating software in AWS.
- Strong practical experience with Kubernetes in production environments.
- Strong software engineering capability across system design, code review, testing and production operations.
- Experience owning or supporting multiple production services, including reliability, observability and maintainability.
- Ability to make sound technical trade-offs and communicate decisions clearly.
Nice-to-have experience
- Developed production services in Rust.
- Engineered agentic AI systems or AI-enabled software products.
- Worked in financial services or similarly regulated, high-reliability environments.
- Line management experience.
