Technical Director – Architectural & Engineering Consultancy

Location: Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Reporting to: Managing Director / Executive Director

Role Overview

The Technical Director is the highest technical authority within the organization, responsible for leading multidisciplinary design and construction supervision functions across a diverse portfolio of projects. This role ensures technical excellence, regulatory compliance, and alignment between design intent and project execution throughout the full project lifecycle.

Combining strategic leadership, client engagement, and financial oversight, the Technical Director drives performance, innovation, and quality across architectural and engineering teams while supporting business growth and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

Act as the organization’s principal technical authority across all disciplines (architecture, structural, MEP, quantity survey).

Establish and enforce design standards, technical policies, and quality assurance frameworks.

Ensure all designs comply with local authority regulations, codes, and international best practices.

Provide expert technical input during concept, schematic, detailed design, tender and construction stages.

Review and approve major technical deliverables and engineering solutions.

Project Oversight & Delivery

Oversee the full project lifecycle from concept design through construction supervision and handover.

Ensure alignment between design intent and on-site execution.

Lead multidisciplinary coordination to deliver integrated, efficient, and buildable solutions.

Monitor project performance related to quality, timelines, and budgets.

Identify and mitigate technical risks and implement corrective actions.

Client & Stakeholder Management

Act as a senior technical advisor and key point of contact for clients.

Support business development through technical input in proposals and presentations.

Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, authorities, and stakeholders.

Lead technical negotiations and resolve complex project issues.

Team Leadership & Development

Lead, mentor, and develop multidisciplinary technical teams.

Oversee recruitment, performance management, and succession planning.

Promote knowledge sharing and technical excellence across departments.

Financial & Operational Oversight

Contribute to business strategy and operational planning.

Oversee project profitability, resource allocation, and cost control.

Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance monitoring.

Ensure efficient utilization of technical resources across projects.

Compliance and Quality

Ensure adherence to UAE regulations, authority requirements, and international standards.

Implement and monitor QA/QC procedures across all projects.

Drive innovation through adoption of new technologies, digital tools, and sustainable design practices.

Stay updated on industry trends, codes, and emerging technologies.

Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture.

Minimum 18–20 years of experience in architectural/engineering consultancy (pre and post tender stages).

Proven experience in leading multidisciplinary teams.

Strong knowledge of UAE codes, standards, and authority requirements (e.g., Dubai Municipality, DDA, etc.).

Demonstrated experience in design management and construction supervision.
