Job Purpose
To lead and manage the design, engineering, coordination, and technical assurance of all metro power supply systems, including traction power, HV/MV/LV distribution, substations, SCADA interfaces, earthing & bonding, EMC, and related electrical
infrastructure.
The role ensures that all designs comply with project requirements,
international standards, safety requirements, and operational performance criteria.
Design Management
- Lead the complete design development of metro power supply systems from concept to detailed design.
- Review and approve design calculations, drawings, reports, and technical
- specifications.
- Ensure compliance with Employer Requirements, contract specifications, and
- applicable IEC, EN, IEEE, and local standards.
- Manage design consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers during all design stages.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary interfaces with Civil, Track, Signaling, Telecom, Rolling Stock, E&M, and SCADA teams.
Power System Engineering
- Define power supply architecture and redundancy philosophy.
- Lead design and review of:
- o Utility grid connections
- o HV substations
- o MV distribution networks
o Traction Power Substations (TPSS)
o Rectifier substations
o 750V DC / 1500V DC traction systems
o Third rail and OCS systems
o LV distribution systems
o UPS and battery systems
o Earthing & bonding systems
o Review power demand calculations and equipment sizing.
Simulation & Technical Studies
- Review and approve:
- o Load flow studies
- o Short-circuit studies
- o Voltage drop analysis
- o Harmonic analysis
- o Stray current studies
- o EMC/EMI studies
- o Regenerative braking assessments
- o Reliability and availability studies
- o Validate traction power simulations and operational scenarios.
Technical Coordination
- Interface with utility authorities, client representatives, independent assessors, and regulatory bodies.
- Participate in design review meetings and technical workshops.
- Manage technical queries, design changes, and value engineering proposals.
- Support procurement activities through technical evaluations and bid
- assessments.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure designs comply with RAMS requirements.
- Support safety certification and independent safety assessments.
- Ensure compliance with electrical safety regulations and metro operational requirements.
- Implement engineering quality assurance procedures and design verification processes.
Construction & Commissioning Support
- Provide technical support during construction, installation, testing, and commissioning.
- Review method statements, test procedures, and commissioning plans.
- Support Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), and system integration activities.
- Review and approve as-built documentation.
Required Experience
- Minimum 12–15 years of electrical power supply experience.
- Minimum 8 years in metro, railway, LRT, or mass transit projects.
- Proven experience in design management of traction power systems.
- Experience with 750V DC or 1500V DC traction systems.
- Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams and external consultants

Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Master's Degree in Power Systems Engineering (preferred).
