Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited or military surgical technology program. Certification in Surgical Technology from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) required within one year of hire date and maintained thereafter. Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency. Surgical Technologists hired at the following location prior to the identified dates, are not required to have a Surgical Technology certification through NBSTSA: • Mayo Clinic in Florida hired prior to 11/20/2024 Additional Experience and/or Qualifications: • Orthopedics and total joint experience strongly preferred.
- Licensure/Certification Required: • Current BLS certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross required upon hire and maintained thereafter. • Certification through NBSTSA required within one year of hire date and maintained thereafter.
- Qualifications and Additional Responsibilities for Advanced Surgical Technologist: • Minimum 2+ years of independent scrubbing experience. • Independently supports advanced procedures in one of the following specialties: Cardiothoracic, Transplant, Neurosurgery, or Vascular, or has cross-trained to work independently in three or more specialties outside of these advanced specialties. • Manage and maintain advanced specialty instrumentation and equipment. • Contribute to protocol and workflow development for new procedures and technologies. • Demonstrates the ability to be prepared to handle emergencies that may include quick thinking, adaptability, and solid skills to implement emergency protocols. • Works flexible hours, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call expectations.
