Role overview

Staff-level hands-on software engineering role requiring advanced development, technical design, and architecture; the position has no direct reports.

Team and technology

Capital One Canada's software studio builds customer-facing credit products and services.

The team works with cloud technologies, open source, RESTful APIs, microservices, and containers.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute throughout the software development lifecycle and lead technical design and development of fault-tolerant, cross-functional, multi-platform applications.
  • Use programming languages, open source relational and NoSQL databases, and AWS tools and services.
  • Improve internal frameworks and developer tools; establish engineering, technical, and code review standards.
  • Own architecture, contribute to high-level design, and mentor junior and intermediate associates.

Basic qualifications

  • At least 6 years of hands-on development experience, preferably using at least two listed programming languages.
  • At least 6 years of application or system design, architecture, and development experience.
  • Full-stack proficiency spanning user-facing front-end and server-side back-end development.
  • Experience mentoring junior or intermediate associates and guiding technical and business stakeholders.

Preferred qualifications

  • Eight or more years leading the full software development lifecycle.
  • Bachelor's, master's, or diploma in computer science, software engineering, information technology, or a related field.
  • Agile environment experience and familiarity with agile development methodologies.

Workplace

  • Hybrid model with 3 days in the office per week.
