Staff Software Engineer - Reporting & Billing

Role Overview

Data Delivery and Billing

• Own the technical vision for how user activity is modeled, recorded, and stored.
• Design query APIs, scheduled and on-demand exports, webhooks, and event streams for customer reporting data.
• Own API contracts, delivery SLAs, versioning, backward compatibility, and deprecation.
• Design and implement metering and billing architecture that produces accurate, auditable charges.

Reliability and Compliance

• Own the availability and correctness of reporting data and billing runs at production scale.
• Lead observability, data quality monitoring, reconciliation tooling, query performance, and incident response.
• Ensure systems meet security, privacy, and audit requirements for a NIST 800-63-3 IAL2/AAL2 credential service provider.

Technical Leadership

• Serve as the team’s technical anchor and set standards for code quality, system design, and engineering practices.
• Mentor senior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and architectural guidance.
• Champion AI-first engineering practices using tools such as Claude Code and Cursor.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least eight years of professional software engineering experience building and operating high-availability, correctness-critical backend and data systems.
• Experience leading complex cross-team technical initiatives from definition through delivery with minimal oversight.
• Deep experience with relational databases and SQL, including schema design, complex queries, query performance, and safe schema evolution.
• Experience designing and versioning APIs using Java, Kotlin, Go, or similar technologies.
• Proficiency with AI-assisted development tooling such as Claude Code or Cursor.
• Strong communication and cross-functional technical influence skills.
• Hands-on experience with event-driven architecture at scale.
• Experience designing or operating usage-based metering and billing systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Salesforce, NetSuite, and Snowflake in an automated quote-to-cash or usage-to-invoice pipeline.
• Experience building customer-facing reporting APIs, bulk export pipelines, or streaming event feeds.
• Experience replacing manual spreadsheet-driven processes with automated systems.
• Experience with NIST 800-63-3, OAuth2, or OpenID Connect.
• Experience in government, healthcare, or financial services and a track record of improving engineering culture.

Compensation

• The listed annual salary range is USD 222,011 to USD 258,300.
