About the role

Join Okta's Data Platform organization to build foundational infrastructure and data products for analytics and machine learning.

The team supports streaming analytics, interactive end-user reporting, data and ML platforms, and product telemetry.

The role focuses on scaling high-volume, low-latency distributed data-platform services and products.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and own data-intensive, high-performance, scalable platform components.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams, architects, and cross-functional partners on project design and implementation.
  • Participate in design reviews, code reviews, analysis, and performance tuning.
  • Coach and mentor engineers.
  • Debug production issues across services and the stack.
  • Build, deploy, and optimize streaming infrastructure for analytics and machine learning.

Required qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience with an object-oriented language; Java is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud-based distributed computing technologies, including messaging, data processing, storage and compute, or coordination and scheduling systems.
  • Experience developing and tuning highly scalable distributed systems.
  • Strong software engineering principles and understanding of multithreading, garbage collection, and memory management.
  • Reliability engineering experience in data quality, data observability, and incident management.

Technology and preferred experience

  • The analytics infrastructure stack includes Kinesis, Flink, Elasticsearch, and Snowflake.
  • Nice to have: security, encryption, identity management, or authentication infrastructure experience.
  • Nice to have: major public cloud experience with mission-critical, high-volume services.
  • Nice to have: petabyte-scale data integration across batch and online systems.
  • Nice to have: distributed systems experience such as Kafka or Hadoop, or Kubernetes-based services on AWS.
