Own and improve a mature production product, setting technical direction across web, mobile, and APIs with minimal direction.
Location is Ottawa, Ontario, with a hybrid arrangement; the role is permanent and full-time.
Responsibilities
- Build features across React/TypeScript web and React Native/Expo mobile apps, owning work from design through release and monitoring.
- Design NestJS/TypeScript APIs, write tests, monitor production, and improve stability, performance, and user experience.
- Set and document architecture and technical direction across application layers; lead projects and anticipate delivery blockers.
- Use AI tools for coding, debugging, review, and research; raise code quality through reviews, refactoring, and knowledge sharing.
- Triage bugs, collaborate on architecture and tooling decisions, and mentor engineers and cross-functional partners.
- Build frameworks, standards, and tools that increase team effectiveness.
Must-have qualifications
- Strong production TypeScript and React experience; familiarity with mature products is emphasized.
- Full-stack ownership, including REST APIs, PostgreSQL, Redis, and tracing issues across the stack.
- End-to-end architecture ownership across web, mobile, and APIs, including documentation practices that scale.
- Experience improving a mature customer-facing product and understanding of web and mobile performance trade-offs.
- Active use of AI tools to accelerate software work.
- Ability to trace bugs across UI, API, and database layers and explain root causes clearly.
- Clear communication, product judgment, cross-functional collaboration, self-direction, and comfort with ambiguity.
Preferred qualifications
- Hands-on React Native experience is a nice-to-have; mobile app experience should account for differences between web and native rendering.
- Automated testing experience with tools such as Jest, Detox, Playwright, or similar is preferred.
- Mobile CI/CD and App Store or Play Store release pipeline exposure is preferred.
- Experience integrating AI/LLM capabilities into user-facing products is preferred.
