Role overview

Build and maintain large-scale, 24x7 global infrastructure supporting DoorDash's three-sided marketplace.

Staff engineers may work on product or product-platform teams, bridging product and infrastructure needs.

The role is hybrid, with some in-office time expected, and reports to an Engineering Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, release, and run large-scale web applications.
  • Define backend architecture and technology stacks for a product area.
  • Improve backend performance, reliability, scalability, and security.
  • Help transition the monolithic codebase to a microservices-based architecture.
  • Lead cross-functional projects end to end, mentor peers, and influence technical roadmaps.

Qualifications

  • B.S., M.S., PhD in Computer Science, or equivalent.
  • 8+ years of industry experience and prior backend technology-stack experience.
  • Proficiency using AI coding tools throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Experience with service-oriented architecture, REST APIs, unit testing, and architectural design.
  • Understanding of modern web stacks, HTTP, and REST.
  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases; examples include PostgreSQL, Redis, Elasticsearch, and RabbitMQ.
  • Ability to improve efficiency, scalability, and stability of system resources.

Compensation

  • U.S. national base salary ranges vary by level: I4 $130,600–$192,000; I5 $159,800–$235,000; I6 $193,800–$285,000.
  • Compensation includes potential equity grants and varies based on job-related factors and work location.
