Staff Software Engineer, AI

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

• Lead research, design, and development of Document AI capabilities.
• Drive applied research in LLM benchmarking, grounding, agent-based systems, retrieval-augmented generation, and reasoning improvement.
• Design, build, evaluate, and deploy NLP, information retrieval, and document processing models.
• Translate business challenges into impactful AI-driven solutions with engineering, product, and business stakeholders.
• Develop scalable production AI systems and apply software engineering and model deployment best practices.
• Mentor junior scientists and researchers.
• Communicate research findings and technical recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Contribute to patents, technical publications, and conference presentations.
• Track advances in AI, machine learning, NLP, and LLM technologies.

Required Qualifications

• PhD in a relevant field, or a master's degree with equivalent industry experience.
• 7-10 years of commercial experience developing and deploying NLP, information retrieval, Document AI, or intelligent document processing solutions.
• Strong experience building AI applications with LLMs and modern machine learning techniques.
• Experience solving complex business problems through applied AI research and production-grade implementations.
• Strong software engineering skills for writing, testing, and deploying production code.
• Experience leading technical initiatives and influencing cross-functional outcomes.
• Experience mentoring team members and driving technical excellence.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience working in agile environments with Product, Engineering, and business teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Publications in leading AI, NLP, machine learning, or information retrieval conferences are preferred.
• Experience with LLM evaluation frameworks, AI agents, grounding, retrieval-augmented generation, and reasoning optimization is preferred.
• Experience deploying large-scale AI systems in cloud environments and optimizing enterprise models is preferred.
• Patents, research contributions, or industry-recognized AI innovations are preferred.
• Experience leading research programs from ideation through production deployment is preferred.

Work Model

• The employer describes a hybrid work model with two to three office days per week for office-based roles.
• Employees may work from anywhere for up to eight weeks per year under the stated flexibility policy.
