Job Overview

The Staff Manufacturing Engineer serves as a senior technical leader responsible for defining and driving manufacturing improvement strategy, resolving complex manufacturing challenges, and delivering sustainable improvements in product quality, scrap, yield, and operational performance. This role provides technical leadership across manufacturing operations, with particular emphasis on connecting upstream manufacturing processes to downstream product performance and customer quality requirements. The successful candidate will independently identify and prioritize the highest-impact engineering opportunities, establish strategic improvement roadmaps, and lead cross-functional teams in executing initiatives that deliver measurable business results.

Job Requirements

  • The Staff Manufacturing Engineer will balance competing demands from production support, customer quality issues, process improvement, and new manufacturing initiatives. This individual will provide technical direction to Senior and Junior Manufacturing Engineers, challenge low-value activities, and align engineering priorities with business objectives in partnership with Engineering Management. The position requires exceptional technical judgment, advanced problem-solving capabilities, and the ability to influence organizational decisions, organize cross-functional resources, and communicate clear technical strategies without direct reporting authority.
  • What Your Background Should Look Like
  • Technical Strategy, Prioritization & Leadership
  • Own the development and execution of a strategic manufacturing improvement roadmap focused on scrap reduction, process capability, product quality, and operational performance. • Independently evaluate manufacturing challenges, customer issues, production support demands, and improvement opportunities to identify initiatives with the greatest business impact. • Establish engineering priorities based on financial impact, technical risk, resource requirements, and expected return, while identifying and challenging low-value activities. • Provide technical direction to Senior and Junior Manufacturing Engineers, defining investigation strategies, project objectives, deliverables, and execution plans. • Organize and lead cross-functional teams, establish clear responsibilities, and communicate resource needs, priorities, and technical recommendations to leadership. • Mentor engineers in advanced problem-solving, strategic thinking, process characterization, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Advanced Root Cause Analysis & Corrective Action
  • Lead complex, cross-functional RCCA investigations involving chronic manufacturing defects, scrap, process variation, and customer quality issues. • Apply advanced problem-solving methodologies, including 8D, DMAIC, Five Why, Fault Tree Analysis, and Design of Experiments (DOE). • Develop rigorous investigation strategies to identify and verify root causes, implement sustainable corrective actions, and prevent recurrence. • Utilize SPC, MSA, process capability analysis, and statistical methods to characterize processes and establish robust manufacturing controls. • Evaluate relationships between upstream manufacturing processes, downstream testing, and product performance to identify systemic improvement opportunities.
  • Manufacturing Improvement & Process Control
  • Lead high-impact initiatives to improve yield, reduce scrap, strengthen process capability, and improve manufacturing reliability. • Identify and prioritize opportunities for new manufacturing systems, equipment improvements, automation, and capital investment based on business needs. • Support development and improvement of PFMEAs, Control Plans, process monitoring systems, and manufacturing standards. • Leverage manufacturing data and analytical tools to identify trends, evaluate process performance, and support evidence-based decision-making. • Establish performance metrics and verification plans to demonstrate and sustain improvement results.
