Staff Application Security Engineer (ServiceNow Instance Security)

Role overview

Instance security and hardening

• Assess ServiceNow instance configurations against security baselines and identify risks to confidentiality, integrity, or availability.
• Develop hardening guidance covering authentication, access controls, encryption, logging, monitoring, and operational security.
• Translate security requirements and risk into actionable recommendations for teams with varying security maturity.
• Identify recurring misconfiguration patterns and improve guidance, tooling, and checks.

Application security findings

• Triage and validate customer-reported findings involving instance configuration or deployment patterns.
• Distinguish product vulnerabilities from configuration issues and document impact and remediation paths.
• Partner with Product Security, Engineering, and other Security teams on complex or high-impact findings.
• Support escalations and high-visibility customer interactions as an instance-security subject-matter expert.

Required qualifications

• Experience leveraging or critically thinking about integrating AI into work processes, decision-making, or problem-solving.
• 8+ years of application security experience, including vulnerability analysis and secure design principles, or similar experience with education.
• Ability to read, write, and debug code to validate findings and understand security impact.
• Experience translating security risk into actionable remediation guidance.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for customer-facing or executive-visible content.

Preferred qualifications

• Hands-on experience with ServiceNow platform security features, configuration, or administration.
• Familiarity with SaaS security posture management and misconfiguration risk.
• Experience supporting customer-reported findings, escalations, or external security reviews.
• Experience influencing security outcomes without direct authority through cross-functional collaboration.

Compensation

• The stated base pay range is $176,100 to $308,200, plus equity when applicable, variable or incentive compensation, and benefits.
• Compensation varies based on qualifications, skills, competencies, and work location.

Work arrangement

• ServiceNow uses flexible, remote, and required-in-office work personas based on the employee and assigned work location.
