Workplace and compensation
- Hybrid schedule with three required days in the office.
- Salary range is USD 90,000–100,000 per year.
Domain ownership and engineering
- Own architecture and forward plans for business-critical systems and their integrations with finance, workforce, inventory, and reporting.
- Set configuration standards, release practices, and operational handoffs within enterprise architecture standards.
- Design, build, and deploy integrations, automations, and configurations; own production codebases for internally built software.
- Integrate AI into workflows where appropriate, including classification, extraction, retrieval, and language-model services, with task-based evaluation.
- Provide Tier 3 diagnosis for owned systems and own reliability, service levels, monitoring, alerting, and incident response.
- Design operational handoffs, participate in maintenance windows, and account for business-sensitive timing.
Partnership and team contribution
- Partner directly with business areas to translate operational needs into system capabilities and explain constraints with alternatives.
- Manage vendor relationships and contribute to platform evaluation and selection.
- Improve team capability through technical reviews, standards, teaching, and mentoring; document work for handoff and continuity.
Required experience and capabilities
- At least 8 years in solution engineering, systems integration, business systems, or software engineering.
- Demonstrated ownership of a system domain, including architecture, standards, decisions, and consequences when systems fail.
- Set technical practices adopted by other engineers; maintain hands-on ability to read code, write production code, and participate in design reviews.
- Owned a production codebase or internally built service, including failure accountability.
- Built AI into production systems, including LLM or classification models, retrieval, structured output, and evaluation; demonstrated judgment about when not to use AI.
- Deep integration experience with APIs, interface contracts, messages, events, and failure modes; delivered changes requiring another department to adjust operations.
- Owned reliability of operationally critical systems, including on-call and incident response; communicated technical constraints clearly.
- Worked in an environment replacing systems rather than merely maintaining them.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with physical operations and frontline staff, such as retail, logistics, warehousing, or manufacturing.
- ERP, finance, workforce-management, point-of-sale, payment processing, PCI-scoped systems, or operational automation experience.
- Experience with internally built software alongside commercial platforms, production agentic AI, model selection, or cost/performance analysis.
- Computer vision or automated classification in physical operations; nonprofit, public-sector, or mission-driven experience.
- Experience mentoring less experienced engineers.
