Role overview

Hands-on role taking custom SoCs and ASICs from pre-silicon development through physical silicon bring-up, validation, and system integration.

Works across silicon hardware, low-level software, lab instrumentation, and system-level debugging on Blue Origin’s TeraWave satellite communications program.

Responsibilities

  • Perform first-silicon power-on, initialization, configuration, functional bring-up, and debugging of custom SoCs and ASICs.
  • Develop C/C++ software, firmware, diagnostics, Python test infrastructure, and pre-silicon test capabilities.
  • Integrate software and firmware with hardware and debug clocks, resets, memory, peripherals, data paths, and interfaces.
  • Develop and execute functional, performance, stress, corner-condition, and characterization tests.
  • Root-cause failures across silicon, RTL, software, boards, power, interfaces, and system behavior.
  • Automate lab configuration, instrumentation, data collection, regression testing, and analysis.
  • Bring up low- and high-speed interfaces; define evaluation-board, fixture, instrumentation, and debug requirements.
  • Collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, and test teams; support fixes through production readiness.

Minimum qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in ASIC/SoC bring-up, post-silicon validation, embedded systems, silicon integration, or related fields.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • Hands-on ASIC/SoC bring-up, post-silicon validation, or low-level hardware/software integration experience.
  • Strong C/C++ and Python or equivalent scripting experience.
  • Knowledge of SoC architecture, registers, interrupts, DMA, clocks/resets, memory systems, hardware/software interfaces, and low-level debug protocols.
  • Hands-on use of oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, signal analyzers, power supplies, or similar validation equipment.
  • Ability to debug across hardware/software boundaries and read schematics, specifications, register maps, timing diagrams, and design documents.
  • Must meet the stated U.S. citizenship, permanent residency, refugee, or asylum status eligibility requirement.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with first-silicon bring-up, validation frameworks, automated regressions, and high-speed interfaces.
  • Experience with mixed-signal SoCs, signal and power integrity, silicon characterization, Linux device drivers, embedded RTOS environments, or low-level firmware.

Location and travel

  • Role is based onsite in San Diego, Kent, WA, or Austin, TX; a temporary remote-work exception is approved while San Diego and Austin sites are being developed.
  • Travel is expected up to 20% of the time.
  • Relocation is provided.

Compensation

  • Listed base pay ranges are $230,398–$322,556.85 for California and $230,398–$322,556.85 for Washington; other site ranges may differ.

Benefits

  • Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, parental leave, disability coverage, 401(k) matching up to 5%, education support, paid time off, and company-paid holidays.
  • Regular employees working at least 20 hours per week may be eligible for stock options; bonus eligibility depends on role and other factors.
