Role Overview
Join a rapidly growing conversational AI startup as a Senior Backend Software Engineer.
Report to the CTO and cofounder, formerly a machine learning tech lead and manager at Google.

Working Model
- The role is based in San Francisco, California, with work from home available two days per week.
Job Responsibilities
- Program primarily in Python and learn new technologies as needed.
- Design and build highly scalable backend systems and infrastructure for a real-time communication platform.
- Help determine the backend technology stack, with Go and Python being considered.
- Build rich, interactive, lifelike AI bots and support low-latency real-time speech.
- Design, build, and maintain a public API for partners.
- Build integrations with CRM systems, scheduling software, and custom APIs.
- Work with backend, DevOps, frontend, and machine learning engineers.
- Potentially lead and grow a team of junior engineers for candidates interested in leadership.
Qualifications
- At least 3 years of professional software engineering experience in high-caliber engineering organizations.
- Strong communication skills and expertise in backend software architecture.
- Experience with third-party software integrations, microservices, SQL, and databases.
Nice to Have
- Experience building fast, scalable public APIs.
- Experience with real-time communication, WebRTC, or WebSockets.
- Experience with task queues, Django, or FastAPI.
Compensation
- The company states that salary may be up to USD 250,000, plus equity.
