Role purpose

Plans, reviews, coordinates, supervises, and assures project lifting and rigging activities.

Ensures operations meet ADNOC requirements, UAE regulations, project specifications, approved procedures, and international standards.

Provides technical expertise for routine, non-routine, critical, and heavy lifts and verifies equipment, personnel competency, and lifting plans.

Lifting plans and technical assurance

  • Review and approve contractor lifting plans, rigging studies, method statements, risk assessments, JSAs, and lifting procedures.
  • Provide technical input for critical, heavy, tandem, engineered, and complex lifts; ensure lifting studies use appropriate safety factors.
  • Review crane selection and configuration, capacity, load charts, lifting radius, boom length, counterweights, ground bearing pressure, outrigger loads, and crane positioning.
  • Verify load weight, centre of gravity, sling angles and tensions, lifting points, spreader beams, shackles, and rigging arrangements.
  • Review lifting requirements during engineering and construction planning and identify constraints early.

Equipment, site safety, and execution

  • Verify inspection status, certification, suitability, maintenance, colour coding, and traceability of cranes, lifting equipment, accessories, and rigging gear.
  • Verify competency, certification, and authorization of crane operators, riggers, banksmen or signalmen, lifting supervisors, appointed persons, and other lifting personnel.
  • Participate in pre-lift meetings, toolbox talks, constructability reviews, SIMOPS reviews, and JSA sessions for critical lifts.
  • Inspect and audit site lifting activities, identify unsafe conditions or deviations, and control lifting zones, crane access, ground preparation, outriggers, and lifting paths.
  • Monitor lifts involving vessels, columns, tanks, modules, structural steel, piping, rotating equipment, transformers, and packaged equipment.
  • Support equipment erection, module installation, shutdowns, turnarounds, and major construction lifting; coordinate with construction, HSE, engineering, logistics, marine, and project controls teams.

Management and records

  • Monitor compliance with the project's Lifting Equipment Management System or equivalent procedure.
  • Participate in investigations of lifting incidents, near misses, dropped-object events, and equipment failures; recommend corrective and preventive actions.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to lifting supervisors, rigging teams, and construction personnel, and support resolution of technical and HSE issues.
  • Maintain lifting review, inspection, audit, observation, certification, and corrective-action records; communicate lessons learned and best practices.

Qualifications and project experience

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant engineering or equivalent from an accredited university.
  • Minimum 15 years of relevant Oil & Gas or Petrochemical experience; the posting also specifies 10–15 years in a separate experience section.
  • At least five years in a similar role on mega Oil & Gas or Petrochemical projects.
  • ADNOC, offshore, PMC, FEED, and EPC experience are required.
  • Experience with crane assembly and disassembly and actual heavy-lifting installation is required.
  • Previous ADNOC or similar major Middle East Oil & Gas project experience is highly preferred.

Technical competencies

  • Strong knowledge of crane load charts and configuration, rigging and sling tension calculations, centre of gravity, load distribution, lifting points, ground bearing pressure, outrigger loading, crane stability, and lifting radius.
  • Knowledge of heavy and critical lift methods, tandem and multiple-crane operations, lifting beams, spreader beams, shackles, slings, and lifting equipment inspection and certification.
  • Knowledge of dropped-object prevention, SIMOPS, lifting risk management, PTW, JSA/TRA, toolbox talks, and HSE management systems.
  • Knowledge of BS 7121, LOLER, PUWER, ASME B30 series, ISO standards, and applicable ADNOC requirements.
  • Ability to use AutoCAD for quick lifting sketches and checks, develop lifting studies and methodologies, and prepare preliminary rigging arrangements and tackle calculations.
  • Experience with mobile, crawler, and tower cranes, gantry systems, strand jacks, and other heavy-lifting systems is described as practical experience; onshore or offshore lifting experience is advantageous.
