About This Role
Overview
The Specialist in Critical Care Medicine is responsible for providing advanced life support and comprehensive care to critically ill patients in the ICU.
The role involves managing complex medical conditions, coordinating multidisciplinary care, and ensuring adherence to international clinical standards and UAE healthcare regulations.
Clinical Duties
- Provide continuous care to critically ill patients in ICU, HDU, and emergency settings
- Assess, diagnose, and manage life-threatening conditions such as sepsis, respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, and multi-organ dysfunction
- Perform critical procedures including:
- Endotracheal intubation
- Central and arterial line placement
- Mechanical ventilation management
- Chest tube insertion
- Monitor and interpret diagnostic tests, imaging, and laboratory results
- Lead and participate in resuscitation (Code Blue) teams
Patient Management
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (anesthesiology, internal medicine, surgery, nursing)
- Communicate effectively with patients’ families regarding prognosis and care plans
- Ensure infection control and patient safety protocols are strictly followed
Administrative & Compliance
- Maintain accurate and timely medical records (EMR documentation)
- Participate in clinical audits, morbidity & mortality meetings, and quality improvement initiatives
Teaching & Research
- Train junior doctors, residents, and nursing staff
- Participate in CME (Continuing Medical Education) and professional development
- Contribute to research and evidence-based practice
Education
- MBBS or equivalent medical degree
- Postgraduate qualification in Critical Care Medicine (MD, DNB, Arab Board, European Board, or equivalent)
Experience
- Minimum
- 3–5 years
- of experience in ICU/critical care after specialization
- Experience in tertiary care hospitals preferred
Skills
- Strong clinical decision-making and problem-solving skills
- Expertise in ventilator management and ICU protocols
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
- Ability to work in high-pressure environments
Working Conditions
- Rotational shifts (including nights and weekends)
- On-call duties as per hospital policy
- Fast-paced, high-acuity clinical environment
