Role Overview
Own the supplier base for domestic Made to Order upholstery and upholstery fabrics, with responsibility for a large and growing SKU count.
Reports to the Senior Director of Sourcing, Furniture and Lighting, and joins a small team building the department as it grows.
Supplier Strategy and Relationships
- Own sourcing strategy and supplier relationships for domestic Made to Order upholstery, upholstery fabric mills, and domestic textile converters.
- Partner with the Senior Director on strategy for potential international Made to Order partners, contributing domestic insight.
- Build relationships with domestic and international textile mills and domestic converters for upholstery and curtain fabrics.
- Evaluate the supplier matrix, onboard suitable partners, allocate designs, and lead supplier scorecards and business reviews.
- Travel domestically at least quarterly to factories and mills for development, production support, quality audits, and partnership building.
Cost and Negotiation
- Negotiate first cost, payment terms, minimums, and capacity commitments.
- Analyze bills of materials and product cost drivers, use raw material trends to identify savings, and audit contract pricing.
- Prepare business cases and cost-benefit analyses for margin improvement and present supplier strategy to leadership.
Product Development
- Manage Made to Order upholstery development projects for current and future collections with Product Development, Design, and Buying.
- Review technical drawings and specifications with suppliers and deliver samples to the intended design and quality standard.
- Reduce development and production lead times, support quick-ship programs where applicable, and help build scalable department processes and tools.
Fabric Development and Mill Management
- Own fabric development from concept through production, including new qualities, colorways, constructions, and finishes for upholstery and curtain programs.
- Coordinate mill strategy, shared suppliers, development calendars, and fabric standards with the Textile Sourcing team.
- Manage mill and converter pricing, minimums, lead times, quality, and capacity.
- Lead strike-offs, lab dips, and fabric approvals; ensure performance, durability, and compliance requirements are met before production.
- Manage fabric projections, yields, and reorders, drive consistency, and run the in-line fabric swatch program.
Production, Compliance, and Quality
- Review production timelines and expedite as needed to protect launch and delivery dates.
- Partner with the Compliance Manager on testing and compliance for Made to Order products and fabrics, including flammability, durability, and applicable regulations.
- Help monitor GREENGUARD Gold certification for kids programs and support supplier sustainability and hospitality initiatives.
- Partner with Operations on packaging that protects the product.
Workplace and Travel
- The position is listed as remote in the United States.
- Domestic travel to factories and mills is required at least quarterly.
Compensation
- Listed salary range is USD 115,000–122,000 per year.
