Job Overview
The Sommelier is responsible for curating and managing the wine program, elevating the guest dining experience through expert wine recommendations, and supporting service excellence in line with GAIA’s luxury standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Curate and maintain the wine list in alignment with GAIA’s culinary concept and brand positioning
- Recommend wine pairings to guests based on menu selections and personal preferences
- Lead wine service on the floor, ensuring seamless and elegant presentation
- Manage inventory, stock rotation, storage conditions, and cellar organization
- Build and maintain relationships with wine suppliers, distributors, and producers
- Conduct regular staff training on wine knowledge, service standards, and upselling techniques
- Assist in wine procurement, pricing strategy, and cost control
- Ensure compliance with all UAE licensing and alcohol service regulations
- Host wine tastings, events, and guest experiences when required
- Stay updated on global wine trends
- **Requirements**
- Minimum 2–4 years’ experience as a sommelier in a fine-dining or luxury hospitality environment
- WSET Level 2 or 3 (Level 3 preferred); CMS certification is an advantage
- Strong knowledge of Old World wines, especially Greek, French, Italian, and Spanish regions
- Excellent guest engagement and communication skills
- Strong palate with ability to recommend pairings for complex menus
- Experience working in high-volume luxury restaurants preferred
- Professional appearance and strong service etiquette
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
