Solar Design Engineer

Role overview

Design and engineering responsibilities

• Design PV systems for rooftop, ground-mounted, solar carport, commercial, and industrial applications.
• Prepare PV layouts, SLDs, schematic drawings, cable-sizing calculations, and equipment specifications.
• Perform yield assessments, shading analysis, system sizing, and performance simulations.
• Develop and review engineering drawings, specifications, BOQs, and BOMs.
• Support on-grid, off-grid, and hybrid systems, including BESS and mini-grids.
• Conduct site surveys and assess installation requirements, electrical infrastructure, and site constraints.
• Select and evaluate solar modules, inverters, mounting structures, batteries, and other system components.

Project coordination and delivery

• Review tender documents, specifications, and client requirements for compliance with project scope and standards.
• Coordinate with project management, procurement, suppliers, consultants, and installation teams.
• Prepare technical submittals, MARs, design calculations, and approval documentation.
• Support proposals, feasibility studies, value engineering, and cost optimization.
• Assist with design reviews, troubleshooting, commissioning, and as-built documentation.
• Ensure deliverables meet Qatar regulatory requirements, project specifications, and applicable IEC and other standards.

Qualifications and experience

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• At least 5 years of relevant solar PV design and engineering experience.
• EPC or renewable energy company experience is preferred.

Preferred skills

• AutoCAD and PVsyst proficiency; HelioScope, SketchUp, or similar software experience is advantageous.
• Knowledge of PV design, electrical calculations, cable sizing, protection, earthing, and equipment selection.
• Practical knowledge of on-grid, off-grid, and hybrid solar systems.
• BESS, mini-grid, and energy management familiarity is advantageous.
• Knowledge of IEC standards, utility interconnection requirements, and local authority approvals.
• Experience with SLDs, BOQs, technical specifications, drawings, and material submittals.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and coordination skills; good written and spoken English.

Pay

• Pay is QAR 3,300 to QAR 7,000 per month.
