Role overview
Leads the engineering group building and operating a research data management and analysis platform.
Reports to the CTO and serves as a senior technical authority, combining architecture direction with hands-on engineering.

Compensation
- Salary range is CAD 190,000–200,000+ annually.
- Target bonus is 15% based on personal/team and company objectives; the weighting is still under discussion.
- Equity is offered, with the amount to be determined with the successful candidate.
Leadership and delivery
- Lead engineering and own platform technical direction, engineering quality, delivery, and reliability.
- Plan and execute delivery, translate requirements into roadmaps, and monitor timelines, risks, and progress.
- Partner with the CTO, architecture, product, business, security, and cloud operations teams.
Architecture and engineering practice
- Lead AI platform architecture, including retrieval-augmented generation, model serving, evaluation, and responsible deployment.
- Set standards for AI-native development, code quality, testing, documentation, and secure AI use.
- Improve developer productivity through CI/CD, automation, internal platforms, shared libraries, and AI-assisted tools.
Required qualifications
- 10–15+ years in software engineering, substantial architecture ownership, and several years managing engineering teams.
- End-to-end engineering function leadership with accountability for delivery, quality, people, and operations.
- Hands-on coding and systems architecture expertise; experience designing scalable systems.
- Shipped LLM-integrated features and practical experience with agentic coding tools and reliable AI in regulated data environments.
- Fluency in JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Python, Java, PostgreSQL, AWS, GCP, REST APIs, CI/CD, and observability.
- Technology start-up or comparable high-ownership experience; legally authorized to work in Canada.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience scaling SaaS engineering groups through high-growth and multi-client complexity.
- Health care, life sciences, research data, or other regulated-domain experience.
- Familiarity with ETL/ELT, Camunda, event-driven systems, messaging, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Datadog or Splunk, and OpenOnDemand.
- Experience leading teams across time zones or geographies.
