About the Role
Retool seeks a Software Engineer for the Resources team to build backend primitives that make data readily available for Retool apps and workflows. You will design and manage solutions like RetoolDB and RetoolAI, debug customer problems, and apply a platform mindset.

Responsibilities
- Design, build and manage backend primitives so that users can focus solely on their business logic (e.g. RetoolDB, RetoolAI)
- Blend product thinking with API and backend design (e.g. making Kafka event streams intuitive)
- Debug customer problems and build features for them (e.g. Google Sheets integration)
- Apply a platform mindset to what you build (e.g. reusable OAuth implementations)
- Support 20M requests/day via 70+ ways to connect data
Requirements
- 5+ years experience in professional software development, ideally some in startups
- Experience owning technically challenging and demanding cross functional projects
- Experience across the entire stack, from backend to frontend
- Experience with cloud based infrastructure like Azure, AWS or GCP
- Ability to make technical decisions quickly, while looping in key stakeholders
- A customer first mindset and an interest in talking with customers
- Habit of introspection and understanding what’s helped you be successful in the past

- Provide built in resources such that builders always have whatever they need to build their next app, from databases to LLM powered workflows.
- Make it easy and intuitive to reliably work with these resources.

Pay Range
- Base pay range for this role is $163,800 – $306,000 per year.
- Additional compensation in the form of equity and/or commission are dependent on the position offered.
