Collaborate with experienced engineers on distributed-systems components while developing engineering skills.

What you’ll do

  • Design, implement, test, and ship well-scoped server features and improvements.
  • Work on matching, scheduling, workflow execution, visibility, quotas, throttling, persistence, developer primitives, and workflow lifecycle features.
  • Balance developer experience, performance, and operability in engineering decisions.
  • Partner with engineering, product, cloud, and customer-facing teams to deliver scalable solutions.
  • Add tests, instrumentation, dashboards, alerts, runbooks, and documentation to improve reliability and operability.
  • Participate in design discussions and code reviews; improve the experience of open-source users and enterprise customers.
  • Share knowledge and collaborate with teammates.

What you’ll bring

  • Experience building and operating production backend systems, including distributed systems and concurrency.
  • Strong computer science fundamentals, including concurrency basics, data structures, and debugging.
  • Production-quality coding experience in Go, Java, or another applicable backend language.
  • Familiarity with fault tolerance, consistency tradeoffs, replication, scheduling, or performance.
  • Ability to break down ambiguous problems, ask questions, incorporate feedback, and communicate clearly across teams.

Preferred experience

  • Testing practices and operational awareness, including logging, metrics, tracing, and on-call empathy, are a plus.
  • Open-source experience, cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, and exposure to listed databases or search tools are a plus.
  • Exposure to Kubernetes or related tools such as CRDs, KEDA, or Argo is a plus.

Working approach

The team values learning complex codebases, critical thinking, ownership, collaboration, and practical iteration.

Prior Temporal experience is not required.

Compensation

  • Compensation range is $118,400–$194,250 yearly.
