About the Opportunity
The Software Engineering Intern contributes to production systems powering AI-driven healthcare workflows.
The role combines software engineering, forward-deployed problem solving, scalable platform development, and customer-facing solution delivery.
The intern works directly with healthcare providers to translate operational challenges into practical, data-driven AI and machine learning solutions.
What You'll Do
- Collaborate with healthcare clients to understand workflows and identify AI and machine learning opportunities.
- Customize, deploy, prototype, and iterate on AI-driven solutions based on client feedback.
- Design and improve platform systems supporting analyses, data pipelines, and AI workflows.
- Contribute to scalable infrastructure, deployment tooling, engineering standards, abstractions, and reusable components.
- Provide technical support to clients and collaborate with internal engineering teams on product development.
- Stay current with AI and machine learning advancements and apply them with strong software engineering practices.
Required Qualifications
- Proficiency and practical coding skills in Python and TypeScript.
- Understanding of algorithms and data structures, including practical implementation choices.
- Experience debugging code with tools, log analysis, and stack traces.
- Ability to navigate unfamiliar codebases and understand architectural patterns.
- Knowledge of unit and integration testing.
- Ability to learn quickly, work through ambiguity, and break complex projects into actionable steps.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer relationship skills.
- Completed at least the second year of a Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical degree.
- Genuine interest in healthcare and improving the medical field.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- Startup experience or demonstrated interest in healthcare.
- Experience with large language models and prompt engineering.
- Experience with neural networks and machine learning.
- A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Compensation
- The compensation range is $40 to $60 per hour based on experience.
Workplace
- The role is based in an in-person work culture at the San Francisco headquarters or New York City office.
