About AbbVie

AbbVie develops medicines and solutions for serious health issues across areas including immunology, oncology, neuroscience, and Allergan Aesthetics.

Role Overview

Unity is AbbVie's enterprise design system, providing shared tokens, components, standards, and documentation for compliant digital product delivery.

The role is a hands-on, full-stack-leaning engineer on the developer-facing side of Unity.

The engineer will build React and TypeScript components, developer tooling, AI-assisted workflows, and supporting services while serving a developer community of more than 600 members.

Engineering Responsibilities

  • Build accessible React and TypeScript components with design tokens, scalable theming, composability, and Storybook documentation.
  • Develop Claude Code skills, MCP integrations, context files, and prompt-to-code or design-to-code workflows.
  • Develop Python and Node.js services, automation, and CI/CD, design-operations, compliance, and validation tooling.
  • Write automated tests and perform accessibility and cross-browser QA using the team toolset.
  • Gather requirements, document technical work, communicate progress and escalations, and close feedback loops.

Community and Collaboration

  • Provide developer support, outreach, demos, office hours, presentations, and community management for Unity.
  • Partner with designers, brand, accessibility, BTS, and other stakeholders while providing technical guidance or mentoring.
  • Pilot and evaluate evolving AI development and productivity tools for team adoption.
  • Contribute to data visualization and data-science-driven features where applicable.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with 5 years of experience, or master's degree in a relevant field with 4 years of experience.
  • Strong React, TypeScript, HTML/CSS, design-system, component-library, design-token, and scalable-theming experience.
  • Hands-on experience with agentic AI workflows, Claude Code skills, AI-assisted developer tooling, Python, and Node.js.
  • Proficiency with Storybook, GitHub, and accessibility or WCAG testing tools, plus strong testing and QA discipline.
  • Experience building developer-facing products and independently gathering requirements, documenting work, communicating, and escalating issues.
  • Excellent written and oral English communication with community outreach and relationship-building skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional JavaScript frameworks or languages, data science, data visualization, front-end automation, MCP servers, Figma, Code Connect, or OutSystems experience.
  • Developer relations, community management, or mobile development experience is preferred.

Working Model

  • The posting does not specify a remote, hybrid, onsite, or field workplace arrangement.

Compensation and Benefits

  • The base-pay range is USD 84,500 to USD 162,000 per year, subject to factors including geographic location and applicable pay-disclosure requirements.
  • Eligible employees may receive paid time off, medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), and participation in short-term incentive programs.
