About Axion

Axion develops an AI-powered quality intelligence platform for manufacturing companies.

The platform helps manufacturers identify, investigate, and resolve quality issues while improving customer outcomes.

Axion serves industrial, aerospace, consumer, and medtech manufacturers using quality and post-market data.

Role overview

Axion is hiring an experienced Software Engineer to architect and scale the agentic systems at the core of its platform.

This is a senior individual contributor role owning design decisions for how agents reason, act, and integrate with enterprise data.

The role focuses on making nondeterministic, LLM-driven systems reliable in production.

Key responsibilities

  • Own architecture for orchestration, tool use, memory, retrieval, evaluation, observability, and agent guardrails.
  • Build and harden infrastructure that processes customer data into agent-driven root-cause insights.
  • Create rigorous evaluation and testing using expert-validated ground truth and customer outcome metrics.
  • Partner with Engineering and Product on the agent platform's technical vision and roadmap.
  • Raise engineering standards through reviews, design documents, and technical direction.
  • Mentor engineers on agentic patterns and system design.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of software engineering experience with recent hands-on agentic systems work.
  • Experience with LLM orchestration, tool or function calling, multi-step or multi-agent reasoning, retrieval, and context engineering.
  • Experience with MCP or comparable interoperability work is preferred.
  • Ability to design and own complex distributed systems, ideally in data-intensive B2B SaaS.
  • Fluency with the modern agentic stack, including evaluation and observability for nondeterministic systems.
  • Experience transforming messy real-world data into reliable model inputs.
  • Technical mentorship experience and the ability to make sound decisions in ambiguous environments.
  • Ability to balance shipping MVPs with production-grade engineering.

Work arrangement

  • The role is remote.

What Axion offers

  • The company offers work with AI technology applied to manufacturing, a collaborative team, supportive leadership, time off, compensation, equity, benefits, and a lunch stipend.
