Software Development Manager, Tax Engine

Role overview

Responsibilities

• Lead and directly manage a team of engineers, including process and quality-of-service improvements.
• Set strategic direction, manage software projects, and coordinate resources across teams.
• Work with tax specialists, product teams, and applied scientists on predictive and generative AI problems, including language comprehension, causal reasoning, and active learning.
• Develop customer-facing experiences and scalable, reliable distributed systems.

Basic qualifications

• 3+ years of engineering team management experience and 7+ years working directly within engineering teams.
• 3+ years designing or architecting new and existing systems, including design patterns, reliability, and scaling.
• 8+ years leading the definition and development of multi-tier web services.
• Knowledge of engineering practices across the software, hardware, and networks lifecycle, including coding standards, reviews, source control, builds, testing, certification, and live-site operations.
• Experience partnering with product or program management teams.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience communicating with users, technical teams, and senior leadership about requirements, product features, technical designs, and product strategy.
• Experience recruiting, hiring, mentoring, coaching, and managing software engineers.

Compensation

• The base salary range is CAD 171,400 to CAD 286,200 annually for Vancouver, British Columbia.
• Total compensation may include sign-on payments and restricted stock units; final compensation depends on experience, qualifications, and location.
