Overview
We are seeking a skilled and meticulous Upholsterer to join our Dubai atelier.
In this role, you will be responsible for the full upholstery process — from frame preparation and padding through to the final fabric application — producing furniture that meets Alma's exacting quality standards.
You will work closely with our design and production teams to bring bespoke commissions to life.
Responsibilities
- Cut, shape, and apply fabric, leather, and specialist upholstery materials to furniture frames with precision and care
- Prepare and restore frames, applying webbing, springs, foam, and padding in line with traditional and contemporary techniques
- Read and interpret technical drawings, design briefs, and client specifications to deliver accurate and faithful results
- Carry out repairs, restoration, and reupholstery of existing furniture pieces to the highest standard
- Ensure all finished pieces meet Alma's quality control benchmarks before sign-off and delivery
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment at all times
- Collaborate with designers and project managers throughout the production process, providing updates and flagging potential issues proactively
- Source and evaluate materials, advising on suitability based on durability, aesthetics, and client requirements
- Handle specialty and high-end fabrics including velvets, silks, leathers, and technical performance textiles
Qualifications
- Hands-on professional upholstery experience, ideally within a high-end furniture, hospitality, or interior design context
- Deep proficiency in both traditional hand-tied spring and modern upholstery techniques
- Demonstrated ability to work with a wide range of fabrics and finishes, including delicate and luxury materials
- Strong sewing skills, including use of industrial sewing machines for welting, piping, and detailed seam work
- Sharp attention to detail, pattern matching, and an eye for finish quality
- Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently across multiple concurrent projects
- Good communication skills in English; Arabic or additional languages are a plus
- A portfolio or examples of previous upholstery work demonstrating craft quality (required at interview)
