Role overview

Service and repair advanced powered wheelchairs used by adults and children with complex physical needs.

The hands-on role combines mechanical and electrical engineering, fault-finding and direct customer support.

Work takes place in the workshop and at customer locations.

Responsibilities

  • Service and repair powered wheelchairs; diagnose mechanical, electrical and electronic faults.
  • Complete safety checks and pre-delivery inspections; programme and test electronic control systems.
  • Replace batteries, tyres, actuators and controls; adjust or modify equipment for individual needs.
  • Visit customers at home, school, work and clinical settings; explain technical work to customers, families and healthcare professionals.
  • Complete service reports, manage appointments and develop practical solutions when standard equipment is unsuitable.
  • Attend specialist product training, including occasional overseas training.

Required skills and approach

  • Hands-on experience servicing, repairing or maintaining electromechanical equipment and confidence using diagnostic tools to identify faults.
  • Practical, methodical problem solving; ability to work independently in the field and manage workload.
  • Strong organisation, time management, journey planning and ability to reprioritise for urgent breakdowns or changing needs.
  • Patient, empathetic and professional when working in customers’ homes, including with vulnerable people and their families.
  • Good Microsoft Office and digital service-management system skills; attention to detail and accurate record-keeping.
  • Self-sufficient approach combined with supportive teamwork. Experience in automotive, medical equipment, electronics, field service, powered access, plant machinery or another electromechanical environment may transfer well.

What’s offered

  • Competitive base salary and a new company van.
  • Full product and technical training, varied field-based work, and a high level of autonomy and responsibility.
  • The employer describes the work as rewarding and making a difference to people’s lives.
