Role overview

Okta is seeking an experienced technical writer to create customer-centered technical content for its products.

The role works with engineers, product managers, and customer success professionals to understand identity and access management use cases and help customers adopt and deploy Okta solutions.

The role is remote; in-person office onboarding is required during the first week of employment.

What you’ll do

Design, develop, edit, and deliver accurate developer and administrator documentation for Okta products.
Work with Engineering, Product Management, Design, QA, Support, and Information Development colleagues to ensure content quality and accuracy.
Follow documentation guidelines and prioritize projects while supporting multiple engineering teams.
Collaborate with developers to review API documentation.
Analyze customer feedback before and after delivering documentation to improve content depth, quality, and relevance.

What you’ll bring

4+ years of technical documentation experience for cloud or enterprise products.
Practical experience with topic-based writing and minimalism, and ability to simplify complex tasks.
Experience documenting SDKs, CLIs, REST APIs, developer tools, customer-facing content, and release notes.
Experience with Markdown, code editors, Git or GitHub, and Oxygen or similar DITA authoring tools.
Experience using generative AI tools such as Claude, Gemini, or ChatGPT in the documentation lifecycle.
Ability to produce accurate, clear, concise documentation for a global audience and plan and prioritize deliverables with reasonable estimates.

Extra credit

A bachelor’s degree or certificate in Technical Writing is preferred.
Experience applying security products in real-world use cases is an advantage.
Experience improving technical writing workflows with AI-assisted tools is an advantage.
Experience with Redocly or another API management and publishing platform is an advantage.
Knowledge of programming languages such as JavaScript, Python, React, or Angular to interpret and document code examples is an advantage.
Knowledge of Okta or similar identity and access management solutions is an advantage.
