Overview

The Senior Technical Engineer is a site-based technical role within the Technical Office department, responsible for producing, reviewing, and governing all Structural shop drawings, technical submittals, RFIs, CVIs, and Structural BIM models.

BIM is a mandatory working tool for this role: all structural shop drawings must be produced from and traceable to the Revit Structure model, and all project files must be managed through the CDE in compliance with ISO 19650 and the project BIM Execution Plan (BEP).

  • Provide Structural technical input to support BIM coordination, model development, clash review, and construction-stage coordination.
  • Review BIM-generated outputs from a Structural and constructability perspective, including coordinated plans, sections, details, schedules, and 3D views where required.
  • Ensure that Structural shop drawings extracted from BIM models are technically correct, coordinated with site requirements, and aligned with the latest approved information.
  • Support the resolution of coordination issues identified through BIM reviews.
  • Attend BIM coordination meetings when Structural decisions, constructability matters, or technical clarifications are required.
  • Ensure that Structural team comments and decisions are properly communicated to the BIM team for model updates and coordination follow-up.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and specialist suppliers to ensure their BIM-related inputs are aligned with the approved Structural design, shop drawings, material submittals, and site execution requirements.
  • Support the BIM Manager in validating that Structural deliverables are aligned with the project’s BIM execution requirements, without taking ownership of BIM management responsibilities.
  • Use BIM outputs as a coordination and decision-support tool to improve technical clarity, reduce site conflicts, and support timely approvals.
  • Escalate critical Structural coordination risks identified through BIM reviews to the Technical Office Manager and BIM Manager for action and resolution.

  • Distribute tasks, monitor team productivity, and ensure deliverables are submitted according to project priorities and approved schedules.
  • Review Structural technical outputs before submission to the Technical Office Manager, consultant, or client.
  • Act as the first escalation point for Structural technical issues before escalation to the Technical Office Manager.
  • Prepare Structural deliverable trackers, submission logs, RFI logs, drawing registers, and team progress reports.
  • Support the Technical Office Manager in planning, workload forecasting, technical strategy, and resource allocation.
  • Ensure that Structural deliverables are aligned with the project baseline programme, procurement schedule, construction sequence, and site priorities.
  • Mentor Senior Structural and Structural and support the development of team technical capabilities.

  • Coordinate with planning team to align technical deliverables with construction priorities and lookahead programmes.
  • Coordinate with QA/QC team to ensure approved drawings, materials, mock-ups, inspection requirements, and method statements are properly aligned.
  • Coordinate with authority engineers or consultants where Structural approvals or local authority submissions are required.
  • Ensure all Structural technical decisions are properly documented and communicated to relevant stakeholders.

3. RFIs, CVIs, Variations & Technical Clarifications

  • Lead the preparation and review of Structural RFIs, CVIs, technical queries, and clarification of sketches.
  • Ensure RFIs are technically clear, contractually traceable, and supported with sketches, references, and recommended solutions where required.
  • Follow up with consultants and client representatives to obtain timely responses.
  • Assess consultant replies and ensure required updates are reflected in shop drawings, BIM models, procurement documents, and site instructions.
  • Support the commercial/QS team in identifying and substantiating architectural variations.
  • Review drawing changes, specification changes, and site instructions to determine technical, cost, and time impact.
  • Maintain proper records of RFIs, CVIs, drawing revisions, approvals, and change-related correspondence.

4. CDE Compliance

  • Ensure all Structural submissions are properly prepared, reviewed, numbered, and issued through the approved project CDE such as Asite, Aconex, Autodesk Construction Cloud, or any client-mandated platform.
  • Ensure engineering documents are exchanged through the approved internal and external submission workflows.
  • Maintain drawing registers, revision logs, submission trackers, approval status logs, and technical correspondence records.
  • Ensure superseded drawings and documents are properly controlled to avoid site execution based on outdated information.
