The role works with the Head of Engineering and Head of Solutions, guiding engineers and translating client needs into buildable technical designs.
This is a hands-on senior role involving prototyping, design and code review, and technical decision-making; it is not primarily a coding role.
Responsibilities
- Lead technical discovery, data and infrastructure audits, security and hosting assessment, use-case feasibility, and early proofs of concept on client data; document requirements.
- Own platform solution architecture, including data flows, APIs, integrations, security, hosting, and agentic decision workflows; resolve open questions through technical spikes.
- Design data integration, modelling, ontology and field catalog, and reliable connections for client and sector-specific sources with the Data team.
- Own client system integrations and the member-organisation gateway/API, ensuring proprietary data is not exposed to other members.
- Design managed-service hosting, access, data isolation, security review, and audit trails; host in-region when data sovereignty requires it.
- Lead the Doha engineering team through go-live, set direction and sprints, review designs and code, unblock issues, and manage readiness and handover.
- Estimate effort and capacity, identify risks, assess change requests, and maintain visibility of scope, effort, and risk.
- Act as the main technical counterpart for client IT, security, and data teams; communicate trade-offs and protect quality, security, and timelines.
- Create reusable reference architectures, integration patterns, security and hosting templates, and deployment runbooks.
Required qualifications
- Master’s degree or higher in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
- 7+ years in software or data engineering, including 4+ years as a solutions or technical architect delivering data or AI platforms to clients.
- A data or AI platform architected and taken to production for an external client, with ability to explain trade-offs.
- Deep Azure architecture experience and hands-on experience with modern data platforms such as Databricks and Azure Data Factory, and search such as Elasticsearch or equivalent.
- Understanding of production LLM and agentic systems, including RAG, tool use, evaluation, cost, and latency.
- Experience with ontology or knowledge graph modelling, entity resolution, third-party and client data integration, and regulated-environment data isolation and residency.
- Strong API and integration design; able to prototype in Python or TypeScript and review production code.
- Clear communication with technical and senior non-technical stakeholders; comfortable leading engineers without formal authority and working on site.
Valuable experience
- GCC, government or institutional clients, Arabic, energy, sustainability or financial data, and forward-deployed or embedded delivery experience are valuable, not required.
- Relevant stack includes Python, TypeScript, LangGraph, LangChain/LangSmith, Databricks, Azure Data Factory, Elasticsearch, and Azure Cloud; the wider platform includes Angular, NestJS, and Cypress.
Success milestones
Within 30 days: onboard to the platform and team, lead the client data and infrastructure audit and hosting/data-sovereignty assessment, and map technical stakeholders and data owners.
Within 60 days: prove complex components on client data, agree technical requirements, six-month scope and infrastructure, and resolve open architecture questions through spikes.
Within six months: sign off architecture, data, security, and integration designs; deliver the scoped platform to production for the client and first member organisations; establish data isolation, audit trail, and support model.
