Senior Software Engineer, Server Fleet Infrastructure

Role overview

Responsibilities

• Design and implement backend services and APIs, primarily gRPC in Go, for server-fleet provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle operations.
• Develop Kubernetes custom resource definitions to automate provisioning and lifecycle management of the server fleet.
• Model and evolve RPC schemas and data contracts used by engineering and operations teams.
• Integrate vendor and internal APIs for robust hardware and data-center workflows.
• Collaborate with hardware engineering, data-center operations, and platform teams on multi-site fleet deployment and management.
• Create test plans, deployment automation, and tooling for safe rollouts and continuous improvement.
• Participate in the on-call rotation, respond to incidents, and drive post-incident improvements.

Qualifications

• 5+ years building and operating production backend or infrastructure services in software or infrastructure engineering.
• Proficiency in production Go networked services and APIs, including gRPC and REST.
• Experience designing reliable distributed systems at scale, including concurrency, failure handling, and resiliency patterns.
• Strong Linux systems knowledge and debugging across processes, networking, and storage.
• Experience with Kubernetes or similar container orchestration platforms and their APIs.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Argo, Flux, or GitHub Actions.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred experience

• Experience automating lifecycle management for large fleets of physical servers or other hardware.
• Experience with infrastructure automation and configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or Salt.
• Experience integrating vendor APIs and internal systems for multi-step operational workflows.
• Experience with multi-datacenter or regionally distributed systems, including failure domains, capacity, and rollout strategies.

Compensation and benefits

• Base pay range is $139,000–$242,000; compensation depends on market location and job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
• The position includes a discretionary bonus, equity, and benefits. Benefits listed for U.S.-based full-time employees include insurance, retirement, paid leave, and other support.
