Okta builds identity infrastructure to help organizations securely adopt AI and other technologies.

The Access Essentials team owns core control-plane backend services, cloud configuration APIs, security and access frameworks, and administrative web applications.

Its services support authentication, telemetry, feature flagging, telephony, certificate management, and admin console experiences.

Position overview

The Senior SET owns test strategy, test automation, and quality engineering for backend services, cloud APIs, and web frontend applications.

The role collaborates with engineering, architecture, product, and cross-functional partners to deliver scalable automated testing and reliable releases.

Core responsibilities

  • Build and expand reusable automation frameworks and performance test suites for microservices, APIs, and web applications.
  • Create functional, integration, and end-to-end regression coverage for security workflows, cloud APIs, authentication, and web console journeys.
  • Reduce flaky tests and improve reliable quality gates in build and deployment pipelines.
  • Participate early in product and architecture reviews to define quality criteria and assess technical risk.
  • Own test strategy, test cases, execution, and estimates across backend and web applications.
  • Automate support for service refactoring, API version migrations, and database or service optimization.
  • Maintain CI/CD pipelines, partnering with infrastructure and SRE teams on test environments, test data, and regression alerts.

Required qualifications

  • At least 5 years of SET/SDET experience focused on backend microservices, REST APIs, and web application validation.
  • Strong coding ability in Java, Python, or JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Hands-on experience with web UI automation frameworks and API testing tools.
  • Deep understanding of microservices, REST/gRPC APIs, distributed cloud systems including AWS, CI/CD, and enterprise security standards.
