About the role

Samsara builds a Connected Operations Cloud using IoT data to improve safety, efficiency, and sustainability in physical operations.

The platform processes data from sensors, cameras, and connected devices across industries including agriculture, construction, field services, transportation, and manufacturing.

The role is remote and open to candidates residing in Canada; relocation assistance is not provided.

The company is hiring across senior through Staff+ levels and may shape scope around the candidate's strengths.

What you will do

  • Own technically complex, mission-critical areas and deliver outcomes with autonomy.
  • Set technical strategy for products and platform capabilities, including backend services, APIs, and customer-facing UI.
  • Design and ship end-to-end full-stack features across backend, frontend, and potentially mobile.
  • Partner with product, design, and customer-facing teams to translate ambiguous problems into technical plans and measurable outcomes.
  • Build and scale AI product systems, including data ingestion, APIs, and workflows for operators.
  • Raise engineering standards through code reviews, design reviews, mentorship, and quality practices.
  • Engage with customers and cross-functional partners to build products that address operational needs.

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least eight years of software design and development experience, including building and operating production systems at scale.
  • Strong full-stack skills across backend services, APIs, and frontend web or mobile.
  • Proficiency in Go, Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, React, or similar modern languages and frameworks.
  • Experience leading cross-team or cross-organization projects from inception through rollout and delivering measurable impact.
  • Experience building AI-powered or data-driven products and translating AI capabilities into customer products.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Track record of building zero-to-one products, improving systems, or solving difficult problems.

Additional strengths

  • Production experience with LLM products, agentic workflows, recommendation systems, or other customer-facing AI is ideal.
  • Familiarity with AI-augmented workflows such as Cursor and LLMs is ideal.
  • Operational data experience or interest, including telematics, sensor data, work orders, and inspections, is ideal.
  • Mentoring senior engineers, influencing engineering culture beyond one team, and side projects or open-source contributions are welcomed.

Total rewards

  • Compensation includes base salary, performance-based bonus or variable pay, and equity for eligible roles; no salary amount or pay cadence is stated.
  • Benefits include a professional development stipend, health and parental leave plans, and a flexible employee-led remote model.

Workplace

  • This role is remote for candidates residing in Canada.
  • Samsara also supports in-person and hybrid work for roles where the job description specifies those arrangements; this posting explicitly identifies the role as remote.
