About Gridware

Gridware develops active grid response technology to monitor electrical, physical, and environmental conditions affecting grid reliability and safety.

Its platform uses high-precision sensors to identify potential issues early and support proactive maintenance and fault mitigation.

Role description

Join the Grid Communications and Platform team to develop a control system for a distributed fleet of devices.

The system supports high-volume event ingestion, sensor data retrieval, device configuration updates, and downstream teams that rely on device data.

The engineer will own, test, operate, and plan services end-to-end and influence long-term architecture and tradeoffs.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, test, and operate scalable, observable, secure, fault-tolerant software.
  • Create low-latency event-driven pipelines for high-volume device telemetry and command processing.
  • Make architectural decisions from protocol design through infrastructure.
  • Own simulated and hardware-in-the-loop testing software with the Firmware team.
  • Collaborate with Data Science and Operations to account for varied environmental, connectivity, and operating conditions.
  • Lead cross-functional performance-optimization projects.
  • Own observability, monitoring, and incident-response capabilities for reliable production operations.

Required skills

  • 5+ years developing distributed, event-driven systems on cloud-native platforms using Python or Go.
  • Experience with Kafka, Kinesis, Redpanda, Apache Pulsar, or similar technologies at scale.
  • Experience with observability, monitoring, and logging tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, or Loki.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to navigate ambiguity.

Bonus skills

  • Production experience optimizing TCP, UDP, or QUIC transport protocols; understanding of networking, DNS, TLS, or DTLS.
  • Experience with distributed physical, IoT, or sensing systems; Apollo Router or GraphQL federation gateways.
  • Expertise with Kubernetes, GitOps, and Infrastructure as Code.
  • Experience in a high-growth startup environment. The description notes applicants need not meet every listed ideal qualification.

Benefits

  • Health, dental, and vision plans, with some plans fully covered.
  • Paid parental leave and an alternating day off every other Monday.
  • Two-week annual paid “Off the Grid” break, commuter allowance, and company-paid training.
