About the Role

The Events Analytics Platform team owns infrastructure for Sentry's time-series data and search capabilities across billions of events with sub-second latency.

The team built Snuba, Sentry's primary event-data storage and query service powered by ClickHouse.

The role expands search infrastructure, builds on the storage layer, and improves core data-service performance and integrity.

The work involves scaling event data into the petabyte range.

In This Role You Will

  • Expand the platform's ability to deliver data with world-class speed and reliability.
  • Architect and automate services and systems that scale reliably as demand grows.
  • Make architectural trade-offs between product requirements and engineering constraints.
  • Review code, contribute to design decisions, and grow code-quality initiatives.
  • Lead design discussions for team deliverables.
  • Improve maintainability and developer experience for EAP-owned codebases.

Team Technologies

  • Team projects include Snuba search infrastructure, querying unstructured data in ClickHouse, and datastore consistency improvements.
  • Systems used include PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, Memcached, Redis, Kafka, and RabbitMQ.

Qualifications

  • Requires 4 or more years of backend or infrastructure engineering experience.
  • Requires strong knowledge of replicated and/or distributed data storage systems.
  • Requires proficiency in Python or a comparable language.
  • Requires strong communication skills and clear technical communication.
  • Candidates must be in the Toronto area or willing to relocate.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Expected base salary range is CAD 162,000 to CAD 420,000.
  • Eligible benefits include incentive compensation, equity grants, paid time off, and group health insurance coverage.
