About the team and role

The Data Platform team builds foundational data services, systems, and products supporting streaming analytics, interactive reporting, data and ML platforms, and product telemetry.

The role designs, builds, and deploys systems powering analytics and machine learning, including high-volume, low-latency distributed data-platform services.

The analytics infrastructure uses technologies including Kinesis, Flink, Elasticsearch, and Snowflake.

The role contributes to engineering initiatives using data and machine learning to improve end-user security.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and own scalable, high-performance data-intensive platform components.
  • Build, deploy, and optimize streaming infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams, architects, and cross-functional partners on projects, design, and implementation.
  • Participate in design reviews, code reviews, analysis, and performance tuning.
  • Coach and mentor engineers.
  • Debug production issues across services and stack layers.

Required qualifications

  • At least 4 years of software development experience.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language and comfort with more than one backend language; Java, TypeScript, Ruby, Go, and Python are preferred examples.
  • Experience with at least one of MySQL, Redis, or PostgreSQL.
  • Demonstrable computer science fundamentals and strong API design skills.
  • Comfort working with a geographically distributed team; ownership, accountability, attention to detail, and customer focus.
  • Track record of incremental delivery, feedback, and iteration.
  • Comfort with React or similar frontend UI stacks, or willingness to learn.

Nice to have

  • Experience with cloud-based distributed computing technologies, such as messaging systems, data-processing systems, storage and compute systems, or coordinators and schedulers.
  • Experience maintaining security, encryption, identity management, or authentication infrastructure.
  • Experience using major public cloud providers to build mission-critical, high-volume services.
  • Hands-on experience developing large-scale data integration applications across batch and online systems.
  • Experience contributing to or using distributed systems at high volume or criticality.

Compensation

  • The description refers to an annual salary range for candidates located in Canada but does not provide the range amount.
  • Equity, bonus, and benefits are also mentioned, subject to applicable plans and policies.
