Senior Software Engineer, Backend

What you’ll do

• Build and evolve scalable backend systems, balancing performance, reliability, and maintainability.
• Design, implement, test, and release product-facing features with strict correctness and availability requirements.
• Partner with frontend and data engineers to define and refine REST APIs serving millions of customers.
• Lead complex technical projects from design through execution.
• Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and technical guidance.
• Improve system performance, developer productivity, and operational risk.

What you bring

• At least five years of professional software development experience.
• At least three years building low-latency, large-scale distributed systems in production.
• Experience designing and operating highly concurrent systems and well-structured REST APIs.
• Ownership of large projects with sustained impact on a system or team.
• Strong technical judgment, prioritization, problem-solving, and delivery skills.
• Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to technical direction.

Workplace

• Role is based in the Menlo Park, California, or New York, New York office.
• In-person attendance is expected at least three days per week.

Compensation

• Base pay is listed by compensation zone: $196,000–$230,000 in Zone 1, $172,000–$202,000 in Zone 2, and $153,000–$179,000 in Zone 3, with amounts stated in USD.
• Eligible compensation may also include bonuses, equity, and benefits.
