General Senior Software Engineer application

What you will do

  • Design, build, and scale backend or fullstack systems used by thousands of customers.
  • Own features end to end, from problem definition through production.
  • Work on distributed systems where reliability, performance, and correctness matter.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, and engineering teams.
  • Contribute to architectural decisions and improve systems.
  • Help shape engineering best practices across teams.

What Personio is looking for

  • Strong experience as a software engineer in production environments.
  • Backend skills in Java, Kotlin, or a similar language, and/or fullstack experience.
  • Experience building scalable, reliable systems.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity, help define problems, and demonstrate ownership and accountability.
  • Clear communication and collaboration skills.
  • Hands-on AI workflow experience and sound judgment about when to use AI.

Nice to have

  • Depending on team, payroll, fintech, or regulated-domain experience is helpful.
  • Exposure to distributed systems or event-driven architectures is helpful.
  • Cloud platform experience, such as AWS, is helpful.
  • Interest or experience in AI-driven development workflows is helpful.

Locations and working model

  • The role may be based in Munich, Berlin, or London.
  • The posting describes a hybrid working model with two office days per week and 20 flex days to work from anywhere in Europe.
