Role Purpose

The purpose of this role is to lead and manage the execution of expansion and engineering projects from early site assessment until final handover.

The role will ensure that each project has a clear scope, timeline, contractor ownership, execution plan, quality control process, snagging closure, and proper handover to operations.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager - Facilities Expansions to lead and deliver large-scale facilities projects for a growing international education provider.

This role offers the chance to manage the end-to-end delivery of campus expansions, refurbishment, and fit-out programmes, ensuring projects are completed on time, on budget, and to a high standard while supporting our mission to create excellent learning environments.

The Senior Project Manager will own the project lifecycle from planning and procurement through construction, commissioning and handover.

You will work cross-functionally with academic leaders, operations, design teams, external consultants and contractors, and will be responsible for driving schedules, cost control, risk management and quality assurance in often complex, fast-moving settings.

The role may be based remotely with regular travel to project sites; relocation is not required.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the delivery of facilities expansion projects including new build, extensions, refurbishments and specialist learning space fit-outs from feasibility through to handover.
  • Develop and maintain integrated project plans, budgets, risk registers and milestone tracking; ensure robust reporting to senior stakeholders.
  • Manage procurement and contract administration for consultants and contractors, ensuring compliance with procurement policies and best practice.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams including architects, engineers, MEP, AV/IT and specialist suppliers to translate educational requirements into built outcomes.
  • Drive site-based project management including programme management, site supervision, quality control, health & safety compliance and statutory approvals.
  • Implement effective quality assurance and commissioning processes to ensure completed works meet functional, technical and safety standards.
  • Manage stakeholder engagement with school leaders, operations, finance and external authorities to align project delivery with operational needs and academic calendars.
  • Provide mentorship and line management to project team members and contribute to continuous improvement of project delivery frameworks and templates.

Must-Have Requirements

  • Proven track record delivering complex facilities projects (new build and refurbishments) valued at £2m+ or equivalent international projects.
  • Chartered or professionally recognised qualification in construction, engineering, project management or related discipline (e.g., MRICS, CEng, PMP, CIOB).
  • Minimum 7+ years’ relevant experience managing design and construction projects with responsibility for budgets, programmes and procurement.
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience of contract administration (NEC, JCT, FIDIC or equivalent).
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills with the ability to present to senior leadership and external authorities.
  • Demonstrable experience of site-based project management, health & safety compliance and quality assurance processes.
  • Able to work full-time Sunday to Thursday (GMT +3) where required for coordination with regional teams and project sites. Some flexibility for site visits outside these hours may be required.
  • Right to work in relevant locations and ability to travel regularly to project sites (regional travel may be required).

Highly Advantageous

  • Experience delivering projects within the education sector or other client-facing environments where minimising disruption to operations is critical.
  • Familiarity with sustainable design principles, BREEAM, LEED or other environmental standards.
  • Experience working in the Middle East or with regional statutory authorities and local supply chains.
  • Arabic language ability.

What We’re Really Looking For

  • A pragmatic, solutions-focused project leader who thrives in dynamic environments and enjoys balancing technical delivery with strong stakeholder relationships.
  • Someone who can confidently own projects end-to-end, make decisive trade-offs, and maintain high standards of quality and safety.
  • A collaborative team player who can mentor others and help mature project delivery processes across the organisation.

Who This Role Is (and Isn’t) For

  • Ideal for: Experienced senior project managers or construction leads who have managed multi-million pound projects and want to apply their skills to create outstanding educational facilities.
  • Not for: Individuals who prefer purely office-based or purely design-only roles without responsibility for on-site delivery and stakeholder coordination.
  • Other details:
  • The is site-based depending on project needs. Regular travel to sites and occasional overnight stays may be required.
  • We are looking for someone who can start at short notice.

How To Apply

  • If this role aligns with your experience and ambitions and you want to contribute to delivering world-class learning environments, we would love to hear from you. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted to go through a structured hiring process. Join us and help shape inspiring spaces for students and staff.
