Van-Kam seeks a Senior Programs Manager – IT for hands-on technology leadership at its Surrey terminal.
The role combines people leadership, development, problem-solving, and planning while working closely with operations teams.
The position is based onsite and includes occasional after-hours support when critical systems need attention.
Responsibilities
- Lead and coach a small development team; maintain and improve operational applications and business systems.
- Work with operations to understand workflows and needs, then translate them into practical technology solutions.
- Contribute hands-on to development, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis; manage enhancements, projects, and priorities.
- Develop and improve programs; support APIs, EDI, databases, integrations, web/mobile apps, and user interfaces.
- Explore practical AI uses and help establish AI governance; strengthen coding, testing, security, documentation, and change management.
- Work with vendors and internal teams, shape the technology roadmap and modernization priorities, and keep critical applications stable, secure, and recoverable.
What You Bring
- Ideally, 5–10 years of progressive software or application development experience.
- Experience leading software projects, applications, and technical resources, and coaching or developing technical team members.
- Strong business analysis, problem-solving, troubleshooting, and analytical skills; experience gathering requirements and shaping workable solutions.
- Knowledge of application security, recovery planning, and business continuity; ability to communicate with technical and non-technical people.
- Collaborative, accountable, hands-on leadership style; degree or diploma in Computer Science, IT, Software Development, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Comfort providing occasional after-hours support for critical systems.
Bonus Experience
- JavaScript, APIs, EDI, databases, web or mobile development, and AI governance or AI development tools.
- Azure, AWS, other cloud platforms, IBM AS/400 or IBM i, RPG, and UI development.
- Transportation management systems or transportation, logistics, distribution, or supply chain experience.
- Developer, database, project management, or business analysis certifications. These are listed as bonus experience, not mandatory qualifications.
