Role overview

Design Lyft Mapping experiences for driver navigation and rider pickup, where safety and real-time decisions are central.

Own core experiences across driver navigation, rider pickup, map styling, real-time feedback, and internal mapping tools.

Responsibilities

  • Lead core Mapping design from problem definition through launch and iteration, including turn-by-turn guidance, map zoom and motion, and driver orientation.
  • Design real-time road feedback, including emerging voice and AI-assisted experiences.
  • Shape map styling, 3D views, and map assets; design tools that help mapping and operations teams keep maps accurate.
  • Align cross-functional leaders, synthesize feedback, and resolve complex design decisions.
  • Build reusable design-system components, tooling, and map assets that improve multiple surfaces.
  • Benchmark map and navigation products and maintain a high quality bar.
  • Partner with engineering and content design through implementation, edge cases, and launch.
  • Frame ambiguous problems with product and engineering leads and align teams around priorities.
  • Give constructive critique, communicate decisions to broad audiences and leadership, and help shape team practices.

Experience and qualifications

  • At least five years of product design experience and a portfolio showing end-to-end ownership of complex, shipped mobile experiences.
  • Experience designing maps, navigation, or location-based products.
  • Strong interaction and visual design craft, with high-fidelity prototyping ability.
  • Experimental mindset with AI-native prototyping and tooling, code-based, AI-assisted, or both.
  • Ability to apply UX standards for accessibility, safety, reliability, usability, and Lyft Product Language.
  • Track record of systems-level work adopted beyond a single feature.
  • Effective partnership with product, engineering, data science, and content design through implementation.
  • Deep familiarity with leading map and navigation products and clear communication of complex work.

Nice to have

  • Motion design and 3D experience, especially for maps, animated components, and real-time interfaces.
  • Voice or conversational UI design experience.
  • Experience with driver, logistics, in-vehicle, or other high-stakes, glanceable interfaces.
  • Experience designing internal tools for operations or data teams.

Benefits

  • Benefits include health and dental coverage, life and disability insurance, mental health, family-building, child-care and pet benefits, and a health care savings account.
  • Lyft offers an RRSP plan and subsidized commuter benefits.
  • Paid time off differs by employment category; salaried team members have flexible paid time off with manager approval, while hourly team members receive 15 days plus an additional day per service year.
  • New parents are eligible for 18 weeks of paid time off as a top-up to provincial programs.

Work arrangement

  • Hybrid role with office attendance three days weekly, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
  • Hybrid employees may work from anywhere for up to four weeks per year.

Compensation

  • The expected Toronto-area base pay range is CAD 136,000–170,000, excluding potential equity, bonus, and benefits.
