The role owns data products from ingestion through publication and sets engineering standards for the team.
Responsibilities
- Build automated quality controls for completeness, distribution, referential integrity, and anomaly detection, with a small number of trusted alerts.
- Diagnose failures and discrepancies across large, high-cardinality datasets and demonstrate freshness and correctness.
- Automate recurring manual operations, enable self-service, and make compute proportional to actual changes.
- Evolve Spark and SQL pipelines, tune refresh strategy and cost, retire obsolete scaffolding, and reduce the cost of onboarding data sources.
- Set standards for shared libraries, automated testing, code review, and declarative deployment; mentor engineers and analysts.
Required qualifications
- 10+ years of hands-on production data experience across data engineering, data operations, or data platform work.
- Expert SQL, including performance tuning, and strong production Python; PySpark is preferred.
- Track record designing data quality, validation, monitoring, or reconciliation systems that measurably reduced defects or manual effort.
- Accountability for production batch pipelines.
- Experience with large-scale distributed platforms such as Databricks or Spark and relational or MPP warehouses such as Greenplum, Postgres, Snowflake, or Redshift.
- Data-focused software engineering practices including version control, code review, automated testing, and CI/CD.
- Comfort with messy, high-cardinality data, including matching and deduplication; ability to explain upstream changes to non-engineers.
- Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred qualifications
- Transaction, payments, card, retail POS, loyalty, or retail measurement data experience.
- Delta Lake or equivalent, governed catalogs, incremental ingestion, and cluster or warehouse cost tuning.
- Workflow orchestration at scale, such as Airflow or Databricks Jobs, and containerized deployment.
- PII handling, pseudonymized identifiers, or work in regulated or clean-room environments.
- Lightweight internal tooling such as Flask.
Compensation
- Annual salary range: USD 132,800–246,600.
