Job purpose

Designs formation-evaluation programs and interprets petrophysical data for exploration, appraisal, and development wells.

Supports reservoir characterization, volumetric reserve evaluation, field models, and rock-physics work for seismic interpretation when required.

Well planning and operations

  • Define scopes for wireline and LWD logging services and contribute to technical tender evaluations for logging, coring, core analysis, and outsourced studies.
  • Support well-location and target planning, drilling and workover programs, and well evaluation objectives.
  • Coordinate data acquisition planning and preparation with drilling and service providers, including specialist logging services.
  • Review contractor reports and invoices and support drilling and well operations.
  • Advise on completion, casing depths, cementation quality, tubular goods, and anticipated surveys.

Petrophysical studies and data

  • Develop petrophysical 3D models and prepare open- and cased-hole logging and core-analysis programs.
  • Interpret petrophysical data to assess hydrocarbons, fluid contacts, lithology, and physical properties.
  • Provide formation-evaluation analysis during drilling and contribute to final well reports.
  • Ensure data-acquisition quality control and follow up service-company post-acquisition processing.
  • Maintain petrophysical data and reports in company archives and databases.
  • Integrate petrophysical evaluations with geoscience and reservoir studies and present findings and recommendations.

Team, budgets, and improvement

  • Work with multidisciplinary asset, exploration, drilling, and commercial teams and coordinate with service providers and consultants.
  • Participate in division budgeting and prepare unit budgets and plans for management.
  • Plan and coordinate assigned activities, train and develop staff, and apply current petrophysical advances.
  • Support continuous improvement, cost reduction, productivity, and compliance with operational procedures and HSE requirements.

Minimum qualification and experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering or an equivalent discipline, with minor or advanced courses in petrophysics, applied physics, or mathematics.
  • 8–12 years of experience, including at least 5 years in core petrophysics covering operations and studies.

Technical competencies

  • Petrophysical reservoir-characterization techniques; LWD and wireline tools and analysis.
  • Core data and core-log integration; deterministic and probabilistic petrophysical methods.
  • Clastic and carbonate basin interpretation, including complex mineral analysis workflows.
  • Presentation, spreadsheet, and document-preparation computer skills.

Behavioral competencies

  • Coaching and mentoring, presentation, communication, and client-interfacing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in integrated, multicultural, multi-company teams.

Work environment

  • Primarily an air-conditioned environment, with possible exposure to heat, humidity, and dust during occasional site visits.
  • Physical effort is described as minimal.
