Senior Android Engineer building and maintaining Xero Me mobile applications within Xero’s Payroll product.

The role combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership, mentorship and cross-platform mobile work.
What you’ll do
- Deliver reliable mobile product features while maintaining security, scalability and performance across native apps and supporting services.
- Design systems, lead API contracts and influence architectural decisions.
- Contribute to the shift from platform-specific to cross-platform mobile engineering and shared practices across Android and iOS.
- Develop or evolve service endpoints, API contracts and integrations.
- Mentor engineers through code reviews, knowledge sharing and constructive feedback; help raise team capability.
- Use AI-assisted development tools productively while applying judgment about correctness, security and privacy.
What they’re looking for
- Deep Android engineering expertise, including performance optimization, accessibility, testing strategies, release management and platform conventions.
- Experience building robust apps at scale and practical experience using AI tools in development.
- Solid understanding of iOS conventions and ability to collaborate on shared architectural decisions.
- Experience designing or evolving service endpoints, API contracts and integrations.
- Customer-focused communication, pragmatic decision-making under ambiguity and a commitment to mentorship.
- Exposure to .NET, AWS, Kubernetes or CI/CD is valuable.
