Company and team

Anduril develops defense technology, including autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking systems.

The Maneuver Dominance team develops multi-asset autonomy. Omen is a runway-independent, hover-to-cruise autonomous air vehicle designed to operate from ship decks, beaches, and remote clearings.

Role overview

The Abu Dhabi-based Mechatronics Engineer supports integration of electromechanical actuation, sensing, and control subsystems for Omen's hover-to-cruise transition, as well as sensor and payload modules.

The role partners with the Costa Mesa engineering team and regional manufacturing and test partners.

Responsibilities

  • Bridge mission systems and air vehicle teams and own end-to-end integration of payload hardware.
  • Select mission systems through trade studies and work with regional customers and partners on end-user requirements.
  • Characterize sensors on the bench and in flight, including noise, latency, bias and drift, boresight stability, and failure modes.
  • Own payload interfaces covering mounting, alignment, power, signals, harnesses, vehicle buses, and time synchronization.
  • Develop production software and firmware for payload drivers, processing, stabilization, calibration, coordinate frames, and health management.
  • Support aircraft integration, bring-up, functional checkout, and ground and flight-test campaigns.
  • Lead cross-disciplinary root-cause investigations and update interface, calibration, assembly, and acceptance-test documentation.

Required qualifications

  • Strong engineering background, ideally in mechatronics, robotics, electrical engineering, aerospace, computer science, or physics.
  • At least 4 years of hands-on electromechanical and sensor integration experience in robotics, aerospace, or a similar field.
  • Basic programming or scripting proficiency in Python, MATLAB, C++, Bash, or Rust; proficiency across a meaningful portion of the robotics stack.
  • Knowledge of Ethernet, CAN, UART, SPI, I2C, real-time systems, and motor control.
  • Experience with sensor characterization, calibration, and coordinate frames, such as cameras, IMUs, encoders, GNSS, or LIDAR.
  • Experience building and executing hardware test rigs using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, DMMs, and test automation.
  • Ability to read schematics, support board bring-up, define harnesses with electrical engineers, and use CAD such as SolidWorks, NX, or equivalent.
  • Ability to travel 25%, with potential surges above 25%.

Preferred qualifications

  • VTOL, tail-sitter, or rotorcraft experience; Rust or C++ in Linux with Python tooling; and rapid unmanned-platform payload integration and flight-test support are preferred.
  • Additional preferred experience includes gimbals and stabilized pointing, perception and localization, remote hardware troubleshooting, avionics buses and time synchronization, MATLAB/Simulink and SIL/HIL, or environmental qualification testing.

Compensation and benefits

  • The role's salary range is described as an estimate based on compensation factors, but no salary amount or pay cadence is provided.
  • The company describes equity grants as part of most full-time offers and offers a benefits package to full-time employees.
