Senior Manager, Software Engineering

Role overview

Developer productivity

• Architect and scale AI-powered developer capabilities, including local MCP integrations, token optimization, and OpenSpec standards.
• Improve developer feedback loops through standardized environments, Dev Containers, pull-request validation, and automated code review.
• Lead GitHub ecosystem management, internal library optimization, and developer tooling efficiency at enterprise scale.

Technical leadership

• Architect developer platforms, internal tools, and enterprise CI/CD systems.
• Apply hands-on expertise to Docker, Dev Containers, GitHub workflows, and modern software build systems.
• Build AI and platform innovation using LLM tooling, local AI integration patterns, token optimization, and API or specification frameworks.

People leadership

• Directly lead a team of at least six engineers.
• Support talent development, performance management, team building, succession planning, and technical standards.
• Mentor engineers and participate in technology communities.

Basic qualifications

• At least 4 years leading a team within an agile environment.
• At least 4 years providing direct people leadership, including talent development, performance management, team building, and succession planning.
• At least 10 years as a hands-on software engineer.
• Knowledge of security, automated testing, continuous delivery, high availability, and system resiliency practices.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience with AWS, GCP, Microsoft Azure, or another cloud service.
• Experience with full-stack software development.
• Exposure to the financial or technology industry.
• A degree or diploma in computer science, software engineering, information technology, or a related field.
• Experience leading multiple teams and influencing senior stakeholders on strategy and roadmaps.
• Experience managing business, product, or external partner relationships.
• Experience contributing to application or data design, architecture, and development.

Workplace model

• Capital One supports a hybrid model with three days in the office per week.

Compensation

• The expected annual salary range is CAD 202,400 to CAD 231,000.
• The role may also receive performance-based incentive compensation.
