Role overview

Senior Manager, Software Engineering in Capital One's Risk Tech organization.

Lead engineering teams developing distributed microservices and full-stack systems for data management and security.

Risk Tech supports risk management, monitoring and testing controls, regulatory requirements, and AML and compliance technology.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop engineering teams, including hiring, coaching, retention, and performance management.
  • Guide engineering practices, innovation, prototypes, architecture, and technology decisions.
  • Promote reusable solutions and lead craftsmanship, availability, resilience, and scalability.
  • Partner with stakeholders across the enterprise and guide use cases through development.

Basic qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering.
  • At least 12 years of professional software engineering experience; internship experience does not count.
  • At least 4 years of people management experience.
  • At least 2 years of project management experience, including roadmap planning, stakeholder management, delivery, and timeline management.
  • At least 1 year of cloud computing experience, such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.

Preferred qualifications

  • Master's degree in Computer Science or Engineering.
  • Five or more years in at least one of Golang, Java, Python, React (TypeScript), Rust, or C++.
  • Five or more years in Big Data, Data Security, Governance, and Controls; five or more years of people management.
  • Three or more years with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service; three or more years of project management.
  • Two or more years of Agile practices.
