The function builds guarded automation, remediation, operational tooling, and shared services for estate-scale operations.
Role Summary
The Senior Kubernetes Platform Engineer runs the Kubernetes estate supporting Firmus products and tenants.
The role owns platform lifecycle execution, cluster health, tenant workload continuity, control-plane recovery, and fleet-scale automation.
The role is hands-on and requires deep technical expertise in production Kubernetes operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and improve the multi-tenant Kubernetes platform across every site in the estate.
- Build operational tooling, guarded remediation, and orchestration for fleet-scale operations.
- Execute provisioning, patching, upgrades, decommissioning, version compliance, and retirement coordination.
- Recover Kubernetes control planes and operate virtual clusters, tenant isolation, onboarding pipelines, and GPU integration.
- Diagnose scheduling, CNI, CSI, admission, and resource-contention faults.
- Run Kubernetes security baselines and provide senior escalation expertise, mentoring, documentation, and incident leadership.
Required Skills and Experience
- At least 8 years of platform or infrastructure engineering experience and substantial ownership of production Kubernetes platforms in a 24/7 environment are required.
- Deep fleet-scale Kubernetes experience, including lifecycle management, upgrades, multi-cluster operations, and control-plane internals, is required.
- Production experience with controllers, operators, or admission logic is required.
- Experience with multi-tenant or virtual clusters, GPU-enabled Kubernetes, infrastructure automation, infrastructure-as-code, and GitOps is required.
- Go, Python, or Bash scripting or programming experience is required.
- Major incident response, on-call participation, post-incident review, runbook creation, and Kubernetes security knowledge are required.
Preferred Experience
- GPU or HPC operations, automated tenant onboarding, vendor Kubernetes distributions, DPU or SmartNIC networking, and open-source Kubernetes contributions are preferred.
- A bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience and training, is preferred.
Expected Outcomes
Fleet-wide upgrades should follow staged paths without unplanned tenant-visible outages while maintaining version compliance.
Tenant onboarding should become a routine operation, and control-plane recovery procedures should be tested and executable by other engineers.
Operational automation should reduce escalations, while platform defects and repeat causes are permanently addressed.
Location and On-Call
- The role is based in Australia or Singapore, with travel to Australian AI Factory sites as required.
- The function operates 24/7, and the role shares the after-hours Kubernetes escalation roster with other senior engineers.
